Breast Cancer Awareness

At the close of the month of October, for many there is much to be sad about. October is widely known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Awareness is key. But what else is key, is to be aware of those who are the "silent sufferers." Those being the ones who are not diagnosed with the disease, but are helping someone who is diagnosed. Those are the "silent sufferers."

At some point in life, everyone knows someone who is suffering, either with or without breast cancer. But what most people forget about being aware, is that both men and women suffer.

That is correct. Men suffer from breast cancer along with women. Although they only make up around 1% of all cases, the majority of those male cases are very severe.

Also severe, is those that suffer along with their loved ones.

Personal side to the story:

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and also lost the fight after nine hard years. She was the one who went through all the physical pain and suffering, but my father, wife, son, and myself all suffer mentally. It has been four years since her passing.

While I do not ask for your sympathy, I do ask for you to be aware. Be aware that men are not immune from breast cancer. Be aware of how to check yourself, both male and female. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor if you suspect something, and don't hesitate to ask your partner for help.
